Counseling-Online

Kristina Peary Counseling

“This time you are not starting over alone from scratch. This time you are starting with experience.”

Online counseling has always been a helpful option in my private practice. You will feel connected not only to me and my experience, but also to yourself and your experiences during online sessions.

It is easy to use this now necessary option. We can absolutely maximize the benefits for you during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just like in person, counseling online with Kristina Peary is secure and confidential, but in the comfort of your own home.

What do I actually have to do?

The telehealth platform I use is called VSEE. It is HIPAA compliant, meaning it provides a confidential, secure and encrypted network for our communications.

I send an invitation to you to join my private account. In that invitation, you receive information on how to easily download the VSEE app on your cellular phone and/or computer.

When it is time for your appointment, I simply contact you and you pick up using your lap top or cell phone.

What should I expect from counseling?

I’d say visit my homepage for the information, but briefly counseling services with me offers

  • A safe & confidential space for all emotions and needs

  • Stress management skills

  • Mind-body practices for stress manage

  • Activation of critical thinking and processing skills

  • Trauma interruption

How is online counseling different?

I’d say in several ways.

Counseling in your home (or your car -this is a good place for privacy if needed or you are at work) takes less time from our day. There is also no waiting room to sit in!

That is a big positive but there is a potential challenge here too!

People often use these transitions times before counseling, consciously or not,  to review how things have been going and to organize our thoughts  prior to session.

I encourage people to build in a little transition or review time during a quieter time of day or we just let checking in take a little longer at the beginning of session.

Likewise, towards the end of your session you may choose to resort yourself for a couple of minutes to  center before to move back into your day. This is especially true if it is waiting for you the moment you end the session!

Often my clients start using our stress reduction techniques to support themselves during these transitions. It just becomes another opportunity to experience the relief of these and other practices.

  • Body scan
  • Taking emotions & stress temperature
  • Unblending & relating to parts (IFS work)
  • Breathing practices
  • Tapping/EFT
  • Journalling
  • Mapping
  • Music Map

I also find it is important that we emotionally arrive in the session. We usually accomplish this by sensing for a moment how we feel in our bodies just now. This is a skill we practice together.

That felt sense of connection for both of us is important to me. I express myself with more body language. For example, I notice I often put my hand on my heart during online sessions.

As a counselor, I keep that connection by making sure I am verbalizing emotions and checking in with you to see if I am sensing them accurately. Again, just a great skill to be practicing!

With these skills, little bit of dedicated time goes a long way. And those new trails of possibilities grow into easy to find superhighways, making that deeper commitment to yourself and your experiences really happen.

Be safe. Be well. Be Kind, inside & out.
