How is this different than counseling with you?

A person’s needs really dictates how different this might be from counseling. When someone is in crisis or overwhelmed by the immediate situation, we focus on managing, prioritizing and resourcing that person for the NOW.

Sometimes that means bringing members of the support network into session to also learn helpful ways of dealing with the hardships and stress of the pandemic.

What is the group meeting or consultation about?

I am offering a group meeting option with this set of services so that support networks can become catalysts for the kind of self-care that reduces the likelihood of chronic trauma and long term stress response disruptions.

Long term stress and overwhelming events increase the likelihood of depression and anxiety problems later. We know that social isolation increases the likelihood of these difficulties as well so it treats the problem by creating connections.

Kristina Peary CounselingWhat do these services include?

These services are designed to manage acute and chronic stress and to interrupt potential trauma.

  • A confidential & safe space for all emotions and needs
  • Stress management skills
  • Mind-body practices for stress manage
  • Activation of critical thinking and processing skills
  • Trauma interruption

Trauma, meaning a disconnected, intrusive and overwhelming feeling of unsafety and it’s beliefs and behaviors, breeds in isolation. Isolation increases with the shutting down function that is triggered when it gets overwhelming or it gets unheard or held by those around we are in contact with, in physical proximity or online.

Knowing that the problem is the problem, and that we are NOT the problem can go a long way to freeing up our inner resources that may have been shut down.

If we have been caught up in critical inner dialogue or outer relationships at this high stress time, we run this risk of shutting down.

Most of us have some fearful core beliefs or worries about ourselves, others and the world that are easily triggered right now. These can escalate our fear, shame, self-protective behaviors and outer aggression.

It’s the shutting down and isolation that is created, whether it is exhibited or just a felt inner experience, that worries me as a counselor right now.

Be safe, Be well. Be kind- inside & out.
